As a teacher, I make an impact on the lives of many children. This is not only a privilege but also a great responsibility. That is why I put my all into my work, so I can be proud of the role model I’ve become and ensure that the effects I have are positive and everlasting.
No two people are the same, so it is only natural that my students are diverse. This is why I've found differentiatiation to be so important. I pride myself in being eclectic, with the ability to incorporate a variety of methods and theories into my lessons. As a life-long learner, I recognize the need to change, modify and develop my teaching style as my understanding of my students expands. I am an advocate for the multi-sensory approach because stimulating multiple senses enhances the memory and learning of the children. My creativity and ability to think “outside of the box,” proves to be useful in ensuring that my weakest students have the same potential to succeed as my strongest students.
Professionalism and respect are always present in my classroom. I manage the class and time efficiently while maintaining flexibility so that teachable moments can be taken advantage of and lessons that are going poorly can be adjusted. My nurturing personality establishes the classroom environment as a safe haven for students, fostering confidence and security within the classroom and within their interactions among peers, teachers, etc. Creating this safe, comfortable community, opens the doors for students to become active participants and help build upon their interpersonal relationships.
Most important, my students need to have an open mind and heart towards learning. This is a characteristic I strive to instill within the children, by being enthusiastic, stimulating their interests and making the content relevant and meaningful to them. They need to feel the impact of their participation in their learning experience and connections need to be made so that their impact can be seen in real life scenarios outside of the classroom.
