The origin of the word carnival comes from the Old Italian, carnelevale, meaning to remove meat. There’s also the Middle Latin term, carne vale 'flesh, farewell' which means "a circus or fair." The ancient customs that these words evoke continue as family traditions at Dreamland Amusements. Many of the foods we commonly enjoy were either popularized by or invented specifically as carnival food. It is widely believed that the Ice Cream Cone was invented at the 1904 St Louis Worlds Fair; Corn dogs were created in 1942 for the Texas State Fair by Neil Fletcher; Cotton candy was invented in 1897 by William Morrison and John C. Wharton and first appeared in 1900 at the Ringling Bros. Circus. The origin of the hamburger is still unclear whether it was invented at the 1885 Erie County, New York Fair or the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair.
The food featured on the Dreamland Amusements Midway is 100% traditional with a newly added twist… Covered Cabana Seating!
